This estimates separate occasions. If several calls fall inside one minimum-payment period, payroll may group them; if a call crosses midnight or a public holiday boundary, split the occasion by rate. General information only.
How the calculator works
- On-call allowance - $25.66 for each weekday 24-hour on-call period and $50.81 for each weekend or public-holiday period.
- Remote-work pay - each on-call occasion is lifted to the 15-minute or 30-minute minimum under clause 25.10; remote work when not on call is lifted to 1 hour.
- Physical recall - each recall back to work is lifted to the 2-hour minimum under clause 28.4 and paid at the recall/overtime rate you enter.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the SCHADS on-call allowance replace payment for phone calls?
- No. The allowance pays for being available. Remote work performed during the on-call period is paid separately under the clause 25.10 minimums.
- What is the minimum payment for a 5-minute on-call phone call?
- If the call is between 6am and 10pm, the minimum is 15 minutes. If it is between 10pm and 6am, the minimum is 30 minutes. The applicable ordinary, penalty or overtime rate still has to be applied.
- What if the worker has to physically return to work?
- A physical recall is different from remote work. Clause 28.4 applies a 2-hour minimum payment at the applicable overtime rate, in addition to the on-call allowance.
- Why does the calculator ask for the hourly rate?
- The minimums are time minimums, not fixed dollar amounts. The dollar value depends on the worker's classification, employment type, day of week and whether overtime or penalty rates apply.
