SCHADS Sleepover Allowance Calculator

A SCHADS sleepover is paid as a flat allowance — $62.87 per night from 1 July 2026 — on top of ordinary pay for the shifts either side, with every disturbance during the night paid separately at a minimum of one hour at overtime rates (clause 25.7(e)). This calculator adds a typical roster up over a year; to price one specific night at your exact classification rate, use the per-level calculator on the sleepover rules guide, which also covers what qualifies and the room standard.

What your sleepovers are worth
Sleepover allowances ( nights × $62.87)
Disturbance minimums (1 hr at 150% each)

Disturbances are priced at the conservative floor — one disturbance per affected night, one hour at 150%. Multiple disturbances each attract their own minimum hour, and a disturbance can push a permanent employee past daily limits into higher overtime. How Sleepover Pay Works

Clause 25.7 builds sleepover pay from three parts, and underpayment usually comes from missing one of them:
  • The allowance — $62.87 for each night (from 1 July 2026), paid whether or not anything happens. It compensates for sleeping over, not for work.
  • Work either side — the shifts immediately before and after are ordinary (or penalty/overtime) hours in their own right, paid on top of the allowance.
  • Disturbances — each time the employee is required to perform work during the sleepover, that's paid work with a minimum of one hour at the applicable overtime rate per disturbance (clause 25.7(e)). Wake-ups recorded in progress notes but never reaching payroll are one of the most common underpayments we find in provider timesheets.
The eligibility rules — the continuous 8-hour span, the requirement for work either side, and the facilities standard — are covered in the sleepover rules guide.

From Estimate to Evidence

If sleepovers are on your rosters, the question isn't the $62.87 — it's whether every night actually carried it, and whether the 2am wake-ups made it from the progress notes to payroll. Upload one real pay period and CrossVault checks every overnight against the award — allowances, disturbances, and the overtime interactions — with dollar figures per shift.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SCHADS sleepover allowance in 2026?
$62.87 for each sleepover night, effective 1 July 2026 (FWO Pay Guide for MA000100). It's a flat allowance paid on top of the pay for hours actually worked before, after, or during the night.
How are disturbances during a sleepover paid?
Each disturbance is paid work with a minimum payment of one hour at the applicable overtime rate (clause 25.7(e)). Multiple separate disturbances in one night each attract their own minimum hour.
Is a sleepover the same as a night shift?
No. A night shift is worked time paid at the night-shift premium; a sleepover is a period the employee sleeps at the workplace for a flat allowance, with only disturbances paid as work. A "sleepover" where the employee is actually up working most of the night is likely misclassified — and underpaid.
Does the casual loading apply to the sleepover allowance?
The allowance is a flat amount per night set by the award — it isn't an hourly rate, so the 25% casual loading doesn't multiply it. Casuals earn their loading on the worked hours around and during the sleepover.
