Minimum engagement is applied per period of work. Separate same-day engagements may each need their own minimum. Sleepover handovers are tested under the sleepover rules, not this calculator.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the SCHADS minimum engagement 2 hours or 3 hours?
- It depends on the stream. Non-disability SACS work has a 3-hour minimum. Disability services, SIL, home care and aged care generally use a 2-hour minimum.
- Does the minimum apply per shift or per day?
- It applies per period of work. Two separate engagements in one day can each trigger their own minimum payment.
- Do casual disability support workers get the 2-hour minimum?
- Yes. Short casual disability or home-care visits are a common source of underpayment when payroll pays only the minutes worked instead of the 2-hour minimum.
- Does this calculator cover sleepover handovers?
- No. Short work immediately adjacent to a sleepover can fall under the sleepover-adjacent rules instead. Use the sleepover calculator or a real timesheet audit for those patterns.
